Taqi

Agha Mohammed Khan Taraqqi, known in literary circles by his takhallus “Taqi,” was born in 1740. He belongs to the early generation of poets who shaped the foundations of Urdu poetry during its formative period. Living in a time of political transition and cultural shifts, he used poetry as a medium to both preserve tradition and respond to the evolving social environment. His pen name “Taqi,” meaning pure, reflects the elegance and refinement present in his verses.

Taqi’s poetry demonstrates a mastery of classical forms. He composed ghazals that explored themes of love, beauty, and separation with the lyrical delicacy expected of his era.
