Najeeb Biography

Mohammad Tufail, known by his pen name Najeeb, was born on 8 August 1948 in Amritsar. He emerged as a recognizable voice in contemporary Urdu poetry, known for both the volume and expressiveness of his work. Over the course of his literary career, he composed at least thirty ghazals, several nazms, and numerous couplets, and he also contributed recitations that helped bring his verses to wider audiences.

Najeeb’s poetry often revolves around the themes of separation, memory, human longing, and the passing of time. His words are marked by a melodic simplicity that allows readers to experience emotion without barriers. A repeated line in his work reflects this poetic mood: “aaj ek aur baras beet gaya us ke baghair, jis ke hote hue hote the zamaane mere” (another year passed without the one who was supposed to be my world). This verse, like much of his work, resonates for its directness and emotional clarity.

Another memorable image he evokes is the inevitability of change, as shown in his reflection on the conflicting permanence of memory and fleeting reality. His ability to touch on universal feelings through succinct, lyrical language is what makes his work lingering in the reader’s mind.

Although details about Najeeb Ahmad’s personal life, education, or family background are not widely documented, his poetic legacy is firmly established through the strength of his verses. His work continues to be shared in Urdu literary circles, especially for its accessible portrayal of human emotion and its lyrical resonance.

Najeeb Ahmad remains active within the tradition of modern Urdu poetry. Through his ghazals and recitations, he carries forward the heritage of classical Urdu, while also speaking directly to contemporary readers. His work continues to appeal to those who value heartfelt poetry that bridges tradition and everyday emotional experience.
